11th August 2008, the Laser SB3 issued the warmest of welcomes to the four South Africans in City of Cape Town without realizing what lay in store.
Father and son crew Dave and Roger Hudson, who in the past have campaigned 505s and J22s, had on board two young lads from the Izivungu Vungu Sailing School for disadvantaged kids in Cape Town who, it turns out, were hotshot sailors.
Ronaldo Mohale, 15 and Wandisile Xayimpi, 19, both learned to sail at school and under a new initiative called Race Ahead, set up in Cape Town by the Hudson’s were brought to Cowes to race in SB3s to develop their sailing skills. |

| The final team for this year's Lipton Challenge Cup has been chosen. Congratulations to each and everyone, including Stuart Smith, Cephas Adda Sibaud and Christiaan Vlok who were not selected to represent our club. Sadly, not everyone could be included, but that is the nature of the game. The fact that you were willing to participate, is a BIG achievement in itself. You've at least been given the opportunity to experience what keelboat sailing is all about and what it means to be part of a big crew, where team work is essential to achieving results. It is MAC's intention to enter a junior team in the forthcoming events, so there will be other opportunities to put your name forward for selection. |

The Special Meeting of Boat Owners was held last night, with the aim of informing all boat owners of the proposed plans to accommodate vessels from the Elliot Basin and then discussing the proposed changes to the Mooring Rights Agreements. The meeting was felt to be constructive with plenty of different opinions being given. Just prior to the meeting a letter had been received from the TNPA (Ports Authority) extending the lease by a further 4 months, so giving the Club more time to finalise its plans and to effectively accommodate all visiting yachts involved in the three trans-ocean races scheduled for the end of the year (Arc Rally, Portmao Global Race and the Heineken Cape to Bahia). Due to the extension, no vote was taken at the meeting allowing the committee to consider all the ideas suggested. New amendments will be prepared in due course and a further Special General Meeting called some time later this year – watch out for the notice of meeting.
Last weekend some 17 yachts sailed Round 2 of the Winter Series A in ideal but cold conditions, the winner was “Benba” from “Smack Water Jack” and “Sensation”
There will be no organised racing this coming weekend, with the race the Winter Series Rnd 3 on the 26th July.

After the success of the GBYC Gaul Regatta several weeks earlier and with good interest from FBYC skippers for future sailing events, the writing was set for one of the biggest fun events seen in a very long time in the pristine and under-rated sailing waters of this bay.
Friday May 16th , in excess of ten yachts from FBYC slipped moorings and sailed the 21+ nautical miles over to Gordon Bay Yacht Club for The Commodore's Dash and Bash commencing with a supper and pub evening on the Friday and the sailing event on the Saturday. This involved a pursuit race from GBYC back to FBYC with a combined fleet of 35 yachts ranging from 19 ft trailer sailer's up to 42 ft racing yachts and crewed in the main by social cruisers' and racers' focussed on enjoying sailing with the race result the secondary cause for this get-together.
