On the water manners

The job of the finishing bridge at MAC last weekend was made considerably more difficult because competitors returned through the finish line to the shore after sailing. While this was the direct route, no consideration was given to those on the bridge trying to get accurate finish results. There is no rule to ensure this but it is polite and considerate to keep clear of all start and finish lines while not starting or finishing. Please be aware of this, particularly in confined waters.

WCROA Equipment Hire

Over the past year or so the notice given by clubs to WCROA (Len Davies) for hire of equipment has become at times almost impossibly short. Len is often away on business for a whole week. It is totally unfair to expect him to produce the equipment required for a regatta at short notice. The bye-law states that at least one months notice must be given. Each club knows long before this that a regatta is to be held. We have now no alternative but to uphold that month’s notice. If, for any reason a request comes in within the month double the fees will be charged as from 1st June 2010.

The racing was abandoned on Wednesday due to a heavy fog covering the Bay, all yachts returned to the RCYC safely. Next week’s race is the last of the club series, with racing on the 10th March being a "fun race" and the Prize giving.
The IRC twilight series will conclude on Wednesday the 10th March 2010.

Mykonos Offshore Regatta:
Once again a very successful and thoroughly enjoyed event with the weather being particularly suitable, well maybe less holes and a little more breeze for the Bay Race (oh I suppose less shipping as well) and less breeze for the trip back to Cape Town. Congratulations to the organisers and grateful thanks to the sponsors.
